Whether you use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn or any of the other social media sites, a common problem people face is spending too much of their valuable time on these. If you make a post, maybe you constantly check to see how many likes or comments you’ve received. I’ve seen people try to solve this by avoiding logging in for a month or just deleting their profiles or accounts all together. Those techniques seem too extreme for me.
Here’s what I did in 2021, and it worked great for me. I deleted just about all social media apps from my phone. This forced me to just check each site on a desktop computer when I was on one. If for some reason I needed to check one of the sites and I wasn’t by a computer, I just logged in using my phone’s browser. By doing this, I found I checked sites maybe once a day at most, often once a week, and sometimes as little as a couple times a month. I was no longer interupted by constant social notifications on my phone. Yes, I missed out on seeing pictures of what people made for dinner that night right at the moment they posted, but perhaps that’s better. For me, it helped free up time for more important things.
My advice, try it for a week, or for a month. See how your daily patterns change. Determine if your quality of life is better or worse. Does it give you more time to spend with family or on important projects? For me it did.
Let me know your thoughts.
