Sometimes we make decisions about ourselves too quickly

I was having lunch with a friend, and she said that she enjoys most types of reading, except personal development. I asked her, which personal development books she had read in the past. Her response was, “None really, but I know it’s just not for me”. This got me thinking.

Why do we sometimes make decisions about ourselves without reason? It seems like in her case she had no reason to believe that about herself. On the same note, I’ve found myself doing the same thing. One example of this was a statement I had made more than once. I would say, “I’m a morning person but I don’t like to workout in the early morning”. This was a belief I had about myself, but I couldn’t thing of a time I had a bad experience working out really early in the morning. I decided to challenge the idea. I attended a 5:30 am bootcamp to see how it felt. I actually enjoyed it and felt like there really wasn’t any issue with it being so early.

What statements do you make about yourself that you might want to re-think? Be careful to not define yourself too early.
