When starting a new venture, whether it be a small business or other entity, it’s easy to think smaller than it will possibly grow to. For example, if you started a company called Best Pool Builders it may work well at first, but what about when you start offering pool cleaning, pool supplies, etc. It’s important to think about keeping the name of the business general enough to where it doesn’t limit the customers perception of what you do.
Another example of where this may apply is if you are going to have only one email address for the business. If you start that email address with “orders@”, that may confuse customers who simple want a quote. Perhaps, “info@” is a better way to go about that.
These decisions are easy decisions at the beginning, but much harder to fix later on. For example, if your business grows to having 50 or 100 emails coming in daily, it’s a bit risky to change the email address at that point. I find it’s not easy to redirect people’s habits, and it often leaves them with a sense of frustration. Of course, we need to make changes sometimes, but why not take steps at the beginning to help make things work better later?
