The first time caller

The phone rings and it’s a new, potential customer. They’ve never called your business before. Perhaps they are calling for a quick quote. This first conversation is so important. Are they just asking for a quote, or are they also calling to see how you will respond? Do you answer in a friendly manner? Do you sound helpful or are you rushing them off the line to get back to what you were doing? A good way to think of this is to picture that you are one of many businesses that they are calling, and at that moment you need to stand out.

If the caller asks, for a graphic design quote, you could answer “$50 per hour”, then thank them and hang up. Another response to this would be as follows. “Our rate for graphic design is $50 per hour. We have a great team of designers and they do great work. They are experienced and so easy to work with. We’d love to know more about your project, so feel free to schedule an appointment at your convenience. Thank you for contacting us.” It’s a big difference to a caller that doesn’t know much about your business and it could help you win a new customer.
